3 Want some hot SOPA?

For sure, you haven't heard of SOPA and PIPA before, until you saw this.

Or this

Pero ano ba ang SOPA and PIPA?

Piracy is one of the major problems here in our country. True.

We are not alone in this Dillema. Our Big brother from another mudra na US ay sumasakit din ang ulo sa Piracy at copyright infringement. As a matter of fact, the US Gov has been facing an intense amount of pressure from giant entertainment and software companies to find a way to stop this.

Finally,

The US house of representative have come up with a bill that will give the content creators extra-ordinary and supernatural powers over the internet. PAK!

to dig deeper, let us define SOPA and PIPA and what their powers are

PIPA is an acronym for PROTECT IP ACT. This will allow the US corporations and the government to seek legal actions against websites that enables copyright infringement. While SOPA which stands for STOP ONLINE PIRACY ACT will be working together with PIPA, it is simply defined as government and corporation's "Black List".

their powers?

Generally speaking here's what the bill allows them to do.

- force Internet providers to block websites that allows copyright infringement.
- Sue search engines, blog sites, or any site to have the black listed sites removed from their website
- forcibly remove Ads from infringing websites

If you would look at this carefully, iisipin mo nga na dapat lang naman na may ganitong batas para protektahan ang kapakanan ng mga original creators. However, we should also consider the effect of this in our daily internet living.

say goodbye to your favorite blogs (like mine LOL). If a website features a video or a picture which contains anything that is owned by a company or any group, that company has the power to shut it down.

Talk about freedom of expression. When this bill is passed, hindi ka na basta basta makakapag share ng video or picture  without being subject to this law. Worst of all, hindi ka na pwedeng gumawa ng cover ng mga paborito mong kanta.

Just imagine kung naipasa ang bill na to way back. Do you think magkakaron tayo ngayon ng Facebook o Youtube? Twitter or Tumbler? Nah-ah.. Do you think sisikat si Charice sa pagkanta nya ng mga song na walang pahintulot ng mga record labels? On the brighter side, malamang wala din si Justin Bieber. hehe.

That's why it's called world wide WEB. It's an interconnected web of information which enables us to share knowledge in a click of a button. Maraming mga technological advances ang naganap through Internet. And limiting it's reach and capabilities would equal to limiting our advances and innovation.

The main goal of this bill is to protect the rights of creators, pero the thing is, dahil sa pagiging vague ng batas na ito hindi imposibleng magamit ito for power tripping.

Imagine, you typed Justin Bieber sa google search bar, you clicked images, and this is all you see:

THE HORROR.

  1. I would've preferred a bill that bans certain individuals such as Justin Bieber and his fans. Of course that would only happen once I have become the one and only ruler of the world.

Back to the topic.

You really can't blame the entertainment industry and software companies. It's their right to protect their creations at siyempre dapat lang naman sila kumita sa mga pinaghirapan nila at hindi malugi dahil sa kanilang talent at resourcefulness.

How about us (ab)normal citizens and bloggers? For once in our lifetime, the freedom in internet has granted us that blissful experience of being a writer, to be heard, to express an opinion and not feel alone?

Here in Italy, that miserable megalomaniac dwarf (oo, hindi lang si Gloria ang nagiisang megalomaniac dwarf) ex-Premier and old filthy latin-lover Berlusconi proposed laws to moderate bloggers and the internet. Buti na lang at maraming kumilos.

I think we should do the same.

Sige, sobrang haba na ng comment ko and I'm aware that i'm starting to become incoherent.

    Thanks for sharing this information.

Hypocrites.

Ang haba ng comment ko I need to post something about this on my own blog LOL
